Pull Testing -
Seat belt retro fitment to vehicles first used on or after October 1st 2002
The 2002 (ne 2001) pull test regulations and their implications
VOSA has decided to move the previous age limit 1 year forward to the end of September 2002 due in part to the complications that stem from the fact that in that window of time it was still permit able to retrofit seatbelts to new untested busses.
But vehicles that were first used on or after the 1st of October 2002 that are intended to be retro fitted with seatbelts still require proof of strength by a recorded pull test.*
BHI has commenced its test program and is proud to declare the Alexander ALX 400 double deck bus fitted with Lazzerini and Esteban V2 seats as its first success and each test on the vehicle was a first time pass!
Many thanks to the team at Status and to Ensignbus who helped secure the dead vehicle and also to Peoples Bus of Liverpool who took a live vehicle in for inspection at the Status test house.
The next busses we will test are the Plaxton President and the Optare Solo
ALX 400 top deck rear seats test
ALX 400 wheel arch seats test
*Vehicles constructed on a chassis built before April 2001 are exempt. Single deck busses will be approved if they meet strict criteria of under floor steel reinforcements. Double deck busses however are not permitted to be retrofitted unless the model and seat variant has been pull tested.
Double deck busses are surprisingly strong, take a look at » these pictures of our 8.5 tonne test bus when we tried and failed to pull its roof off!
